Senior Institution Hours

SIUC requires at least 60 senior institution (4-year college) credit hours in order to earn a Bachelor’s degree.  Since the Industrial Technology Program offers only 48 hours on-base through the IT courses, some of you will need to get 12 additional semester hours of senior institution credit to transfer to SIUC.  The following suggestions are ways to do that:

  1.  Work Experience credit.  This option is for civilian students only (because military students get credit for military work and training).  Obtain work experience guidelines from coordinator in IT office, after you have completed at least one semester in the IT program.

  2. Take courses you need, according to your evaluation, from a Senior Institution.

  3. Take ILP courses from SIU Carbondale - see http://www.dce.siu.edu/siuconnected/ for information.

  4. Take Dantes and General Clep exams through the military base for an appointment please call base coordinator. SIUC will not accept credit for Subject Clep exams.  SIUC will accept credit for General Clep exams (only if the student has never had any college classes in the subject and obtains the score accepted by SIUC so check with coordinator in IT office before taking exams).  Also check with Base Coordinator or IT office to find out which Dantes exams will transfer to SIUC.

Don’t ignore this Senior Institution requirement.  You can have all course requirements complete and still not graduate because of this rule.
