Dover AFB is Wing 436 of the Air Mobility Command and is one of the three Air Force installations with the giant C-5 cargo planes.

LOCATION

 

Dover AFB is located two (2) miles south of Dover, the capital of Delaware, on route 113. Dover can be reached:

 

If you plan to fly to Philadelphia International Airport and rent an automobile, follow these directions:

*  Leave the airport and take 95 South.

*  Thirteen miles from the airport the road becomes 95 and 495 marked Port Wilmington, Baltimore, Delaware Memorial Bridge.  (DO NOT TAKE 295 to New Jersey...about 10 miles from the airport.)

* After thirteen miles on 495, several sign will indicate right-hand ramp to Dover, Rt. 13.     

*  Follow route 13 to Dover (44 miles). In Dover – south end at the Y in the highway where Routes 13 and 113 separate, take 

    the right-hand leg on Route 113 marked Dover AFB Main Gate, keep in the right hand lane.  This will take you directly to

    the Main Gate.  Take exit 93 and make a left at the traffic light.  Proceed through the light into the Main Gate.

 

**** ALL Visitors must use the Main Gate. Once through the Main Gate go straight to the light and make a left.  Proceed on Atlantic Avenue through the next light and make a left on 4th Street located just before the long building on the left.  At the stop sign, turn right on to Evreux Street and proceed to Bldg. 639.  Parking is on the left side by the Relocated Classrooms.  SIU will hold classes in the main building upstairs in Room 211.  The door to enter the building is on the west side of the building door way #2.  The office is in Room 208 upstairs.  Please follow the base map to Building 639.  Make sure you have your visitors pass ready to show the security guard at the gate.  Also make sure you are in the left lane.  You may be asked to show your driver’s license, car registration and proof of insurance.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THESE ITEMS ARE CURRENT. You will not be allowed to enter the base if any of these items are expired.

 

If you plan to fly to Washington, DC (National Airport) and rent an automobile, follow these directions:

*  Leave Airport on route going into Washington D.C. marked (to 395) stay in right lane.

*  1 mile to first ramp exit marked (RT. 395)

*  Immediately after crossing river, stay right following (395) past fork in multi-lane road.

*  1/2 mile past bridge, move to left lanes and stay with center highway divider until you see signs (to 295), about 2 miles.  DO NOT TAKE (RT. 395) RAMP TO THE RIGHT.  (If this happens, you will find yourself in a tunnel under buildings.  Stay with 395 approximately one mile, about four blocks after leaving tunnel and make a right turn onto (RT. 50) east through city into Maryland).

*  Follow (TO 295) signs across river bearing right onto (295) south.  DO NOT TAKE ANACOSTIA PARKWAY OR MARTIN LUTHER KING.

*  Take first exit on (295 S.) marked HOWARD ROAD.  On ramp take left hand road of fork.  You are making a loop under the highway to enter the other side going north.

*  Upon entering the highway going north, get to left side lanes following (TO 95N) sign.  DO NOT TAKE RIGHT SIDE OF FORK MARKED (295N).

*  Go (5) miles on Anacostia Freeway to exit for route (50E) on your right, (exit ramp a little difficult to see).

*  Follow Route (50) through Maryland.

Get on to Route (50/301) east bound from Washington D.C.

*  Proceed through Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay toll bridge.

*  Twelve (12) miles from bridge continue on Route (301) when route (50) splits to the south.

*  Approximately fifteen (15) miles further, just past the 100 mile road marker, make a right on to Route (19) to Ingleside.

*  Four (4) miles to stop sign and dead end, turn right on to route (313) (you blinked and missed Ingleside).

*  Seven (7) miles proceed straight ahead on route (287) as route (313) makes a sharp turn to right.

*  On route 287 into Delaware where Route number becomes (10).

*  Follow Route 10, approximately 20 miles, to Dover AFB.  Notice Route 10 makes a right turn at the first stop sign in

   Camden, otherwise straight ahead.

*  Route 10 ends at the North Gate of Dover AFB.  Make sure you have your vehicle pass available.  Proceed to Building 

   639.  Office in room 208, Classroom is in room 211.


If you plan to fly to Baltimore, Maryland and rent an automobile, follow these directions:

*  Leaving BWI take first right onto Shipley Road (Rt. 170).

*  Two (2) miles turn on Hammonds Ferry Road (Rt. 167).

*  Three miles make left turn on Dorsey Road (Rt. 176).  Get in right lane to enter ramp (1 block distance) for Rt. 3.

*  Stay in right lane for less than 1/2 mile and exit onto (Rt. 100) to Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

*  Leave Rt. 100 at third exit, Rt. 2 to Annapolis and Bay Bridge.

*  Approximately 10 miles road splits, take left road, Rt. (50/301 E) to Bay Bridge.

*  Twelve (12) miles from bridge continue on Route (301) when route (50) splits to the south.

*  Approximately fifteen (15) miles further, just past the 100 mile road marker, make a right on to Route (19) to Ingleside.

*  Four (4) miles to stop sign and dead end, turn right on to route (313) (you blinked and missed Ingleside).

Fort Meade to Dover AFB:

*  From Fort Meade travel east on Maryland (176) to Interstate (97) to Annapolis.

*  Travel east on US (50/301).

*  Approximately fifteen (15) miles further, just past the 100-mile road marker, make a right on to Route (19) to Ingleside.

*  Four (4) miles to stop sign and dead end, turn right on to route (313) (you blinked and missed Ingleside).

*  Seven (7) miles proceed straight ahead on route (287) as route (313) makes a sharp turn to right.

*  On route 287 into Delaware where Route number becomes (10).

*  Follow Route 10, approximately 20 miles, to Dover AFB.  Notice Route 10 makes a right turn at the first stop sign in Camden, otherwise straight ahead.  Make sure you have your vehicle pass available.  Proceed to Building 639.  Office in room 208, Classroom is in room 211.


DIRECTIONS TO THE MOTEL (Instructors Only):

*  In Dover - south end at the Y in highway where Routes 13 and 113 separate, take the left-hand leg on Route 113 marked Dover AFB.  The Base is two miles ahead on your left.  At the Blue Hen Mall on Southbound 113, you must be in the left lane to reach the North Gate and Route 10 to the Best Western Galaxy Inn.  At the North Gate of Dover AFB, make sure you are in the right lane and make a right onto Route 10.  Immediately, change into the left lane.  The Best Western Galaxy Inn is next to the McDonald’s on Route 10. The Main can be accessed through the base housing area Eagle Heights.  This is the road that runs behind McDonalds.  Follow it into base housing (watch! Speed limit is 25mph), keep on Hawthorne Drive until you come to High Street (4th left).  Follow High Street to the stop sign, make left and proceed to overpass into the Main gate.                                                                                                                                                                      

 

*  New Route 1 traffic pattern.  If you plan to take Route 1 by-pass it will cut down your travel time considerably.  Follow the signs above Smyrna Rt. 1 to Dover and the Shore.  After the tollbooth take Exit 95 to Dover.  Make a left onto RT. 113 and follow to the North Gate.  To reach the Best Western Galaxy Inn from Route 113, make a right at the traffic light onto Rt. 10.  Go immediately to the far-left lane.  The Best Western Galaxy Inn is next to the McDonald's.  You may use the McDonald's drive, which is connected to the Galaxy Inn parking lot.  If you miss this turn, make a left at the light and use the rear entrance to McDonald's and the Galaxy Inn.

 

RESERVATIONS FOR INSTRUCTORS:

Arrangements have been made for you at the Best Western Galaxy Inn Motel on Rt. 10 in Dover.  This motel in next to McDonald’s across from the North Gate of the base.  You can’t miss it.  Reservations have been made for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night of each weekend you are teaching at Dover.  They will bill Campus direct.  If you are not planning to stay Sunday night, PLEASE CANCEL the reservation for that night upon your arrival or Campus will have to pay for it.

 

Classes are held in Building 639, Room 211.  There is a no smoking allowed policy in the building.  You will be given attendance sheets and a key to the office the first Saturday Morning of class.  All classrooms are equipped with VCR, TV, and Overhead projectors.  If you need any other equipment, please let me know.

Enclosed is a Base Pass for the duration of the class.

If you wish me to monitor exams during office hours, please provide the exams with names of students on them and instructions (time limits open or closed book, etc.).
